Gloss Medium by Golden

For this style of collage, Gloss Medium works the best for all pre-coating papers and for building a skin over an image to make into an Image transfer with a Laser copy, color or black ink.

Finding What Works

Learning about the art materials you are interested in using is a trail and error process. We all know their expense but there is still much experimenting in understanding it nature.

Our hands are our most precious tools and what we put in them is an extension of them. It's a given in the process of exploring that we will make mistakes. It's also said that if your going to fail we should fail forward. So be a kid again and explore you materials and how to use them.

Watercolor Paper

I watch for sales just as much as we all do these days. I like to use the 140lb weigh paper it works well for most of my art.

Found Papers

These are papers at your finger tips, possibly out of the recycling bin or found sheet music from a garage sale or an old book from a resale shop.

Acrylic Paints

I use all kinds of acrylic paints though Golden is a favorite of mine especially for stained tissue paper technique.

Brushes

It is always good to have a variety of brushes to work with. The square 1" brush is great for coat with gloss medium on your papers or applying glazing mediums. The other brushes are great to use for shadowing with the glazing medium. In collage it's not so much about paint the paper but applying it and altering the surface, and a good brush is always helpful. Clean up I like to use Simple Green but there are many other brush cleaners out there to use. Hang out in the Art Arena long enough and you will hear what others use.
